چکیده

Some recent experimental studies of clustering and correlations within very neutron-rich light nuclei are reviewed. In particular, the development of the novel probes of neutron-neutron interferometry and Dalitz-plot analyses is presented through the example of the dissociation of the two-neutron halo system 14 Be. The utility of high-energy proton radiative capture is illustrated using a study of the 6 He(p,γ) reaction. A new approach to the production and detection of bound neutron clusters is also described, and the observation of events with the characteristics expected for tetraneutrons (4 n) liberated in the breakup of 14 Be is discussed. The prospects for future work, including systems beyond the neutron dripline, are briefly outlined.

This paper presents results of elliptic flow measurements at moderate high transverse momentum in Au+Au collisions using the STAR detector at RHIC. Sizable v 2 is found up to 7 GeV/c in transverse momentum. Non-flow effects are discussed comparing correlations in p+p collisions and Au+Au collisions. v 2 from two-, four-and six-particle cumulant are shown and discussed.

The sizes, temperatures and free neutron to proton ratios of the initial interaction zones produced in the collisions of 40 MeV/nucleon Ar + Sn and 55 MeV/nucleonAl + Sn are derived using total detected neutron plus charged particle multiplicity as a measure of the impact parameter range and number of participant nucleons. The size of the initial interaction zone, determined from a coalescence ...

A new dynamical approach that combines covariant parton transport theory with hadronization channels via parton coalescence and fragmentation is applied to Au+Au at RHIC. Basic consequences of the simple coalescence formulas, such as elliptic flow scaling and enhanced p/π ratio, turn out to be rather sensitive to the spacetime aspects of coalescence dynamics. The structure of nuclei far off β-stability is investigated by nuclear many-body theory. In-medium interactions for asymmetric nuclear matter are obtained by (Dirac-) Brueckner theory thus establishing the link of nuclear forces to free space interactions. HFB and RPA theory is used to describe ground and excited states of nuclei from light to heavy masses. In extreme dripline systems pairing a...

An algebraic sp(4) shell model is introduced to achieve a deeper understanding and interpretation of the properties of pairing-governed 0 states in medium mass atomic nuclei. The theory, which embodies the simplicity of a dynamical symmetry approach to nuclear structure, is shown to reproduce the excitation spectra and fine structure effects driven by proton-neutron interactions and isovector p...
